What we've done and Where We're Going!
In 2022 PFLAG Whidbey Island:
Over 100 people attended the first major Pride Family Picnic in Oak harbor. Our guests enjoyed yard games, hot dogs, popcorn, face painting, meeting the librarian, other allies, and special guest speaker Dr. Grethe Cammermeyer who talked about changes over her lifetime in the US military. Special thanks to Anita Johnston and Windermere Realty for co-hosting the event.
20-25 people, including several family groups, attended our Prom Movie Night - a fun event for all ages
Tried a new Event: PFLAG Puppy Meet and Greet at Patmore Pit Park in Coupeville.
We provided 10 General Support Meetings virtually through Zoom,
And 11 Gender Identity Support Meetings (also through Zoom)
10 Board Meetings were held to facilitate programs throughout the Island
Plus 2 special meetings advocating for supporting of LGBTQ children’s rights in the Oak Harbor Public School district
Board Member, Fe Mischo, and her son, Jeremy, were interviewed on King5 News regarding the OHPS School Board changes that might affect the protection youth’s privacy
At the Holland Happening Event we gave away hundreds of Pride flags and hundreds of stickers. Special thanks to Anita Johnston and Windermere Realty for hosting us at their booth
Financial support was given to The HUB after-school program in their efforts to support LGBTQ teens
Financial support was given to South Whidbey High School Queer & Trans Club
Financial support was given to Hearts and Hammers for supporting a LGBTQ family in need of major home repairs
